The Graacher Himmelreich Riesling comes from the small and picturesque town of Graach, located between Bernkastel and Wehlen. This vineyard is particularly known for the blue/grey slate character of its soil and relatively steep slopes with southwestern exposure. The vines are an average of 60 to 70 years old, are ungrafted (original rootstock), and reach up to 50’ deep. The 2012 Kabinette opens with ripe aromatics of pear, red delicious apple, starfruit and petrol. This leads to flavors of red delicious apple, wet stone, jasmine tea, white peach lemon-lime and poached pear. The finish lingers alongside wonderful minerality. An expressive and rich effort, bordering on Spatlese like characteristics. (Best 2015-2027) - November, 2015 (OB)
