VIETTI Barbera d’Alba ‘Vigna Scarrone’ 2011

The 2011 Vietti Barbera d’Alba ‘Scaronne' is a thrilling wine. This big time Barbera possesses plenty of power, concentration and depth. It offers Intense aromas of blackberry, smoke, vanilla, spices, wild herbs, minerals and crushed violets. It displays wonderful balance and finesse with a seamless transition into the velvety finish. There is a gorgeous layer of underlying minerality that pushes through before juicy berries and smoke take over. The Barbera was aged in French oak barrels and oak cask for 14 months, then held in stainless steel tanks for 2 months before bottling, unfiltered. Although this is already drinking excellent, it will benefit from another year or two in bottle. (Best 2016-2026) - April, 2014 (JD)
