VOLIERO Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Voliero comes from vineyards located in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate zone, which are situated at an altitude of 250-450 meters above sea level with various exposures. Andrea Cortonesi, owner of Uccelliera, started this project with other winemakers from the region just over a decade ago, and it has been a complete success ever since. The 2012 opens to aromas of dried cherries and red plums laced with dried spices, orange peel and notes of cedar box all take shape the glass. On the plate this possesses a medium-plus body and is structured around fine tannins with notable acidity at its core. Everything is wrapped up in a long, chewy finish with dried red fruits and spices lingering on. While this is accessible now if given air contact, it will likely need a bit more bottle age before it begins to hit its stride. (Best 2019-2028) - February, 2017 (JD)
