The 2012 ‘Vallocchio’ is a dead-sexy Brunello di Montalcino from Tenuta Fanti. It spent 30 months in wood, which has added wonderful complex nuances to the wine, as it bursts open with profound aromas of dark cherries and blackberries, which are laced with sweet spices, crushed stones, licorice, fresh cut floral and hints of aged balsamic. This is full-bodied, voluptuous and possesses a wonderful plush texture with excellent depth. The finish is long and complex with dark fruits, spices and balsamic notes lingering on and on. Fanti has obtained optimum ripeness from their fruit in this vintage and although this is certainly a bit on the modern side, they managed to keep it beautifully balanced.
