2014 TOP 100 WINES | Rank #12
The 2010 ‘Colonnello’ from Aldo Conterno is an absolutely stunning showing and clearly one of the best Barolo I have tasted so far in 2010. It immediately bursts with seductive aromas and flavors of dark cherries and ripe strawberries followed by tar, floral, sweet spices, licorice, mint and fresh minerals. This layered Barolo dazzles with its beautiful polished texture and amazing structure, which is balanced by gorgeous acidity that provides a remarkable sense of freshness all the way to the end. Red fruits and sweet spices continue to explode onto the finish where they turn dry and linger with impressive length. Even at this early stage the ‘Colonnello’ is certainly a showstopper and proves to be very approachable, however it offers the best of both worlds, showing serious ageing potential as well.
