LUIGI PIRA Barolo 'Vigna Rionda' 2012

Pira’s Barolo from the 'Vigna Rionda' cru is once again the most compelling wine from the estate. The 'Vigna Rionda' cru is located in the commune if Serralunga and situated at an altitude of 330 meters with a south-west exposure and is planted to clay and limestone soils. It is typically aged over 24 months, in a mix of small and large wooden barrels. The 2012 is a beautifully made, complex wine with aromas of dark cherries and wild berries woven together with mint, fresh violets, leather, minerals and spices, all soaring from the glass. This continues to impress on the palate, demonstrating outstanding overall balance, finesse and depth as it displays wonderful length on the finish. The 'Vigna Rionda' already shows wonderful appeal and will without a doubt continue to evolve over the next decade and beyond. (2017-2030) - June, 2016 (JD)
