The Luce vineyard is adjacent to Marchesi de' Frescobaldi's famous Brunello estate, Castel Giocondo and it sits at elevations of 1300 to 1500 feet, one of the highest vineyard sites in Montalcino. Year after year this wine is as consistent in quality as just about anything else that comes to mind, and the 2011 is no exception, as it is another tremendous showing. As it begins to unwind in the glass, it releases seductive aromas of fresh blackberries, dark currants, graphite, spring flowers, spices and mocha. It offers a full body that is richly textured and layered, while demonstrating excellent concentration along with underlying acidity, which adds lift as it heads into the long finish. Overall, this is a superb effort and a great example of combining power and finesse. (Best 2015-2030) - June, 2014 (JD)
