Despite a less than optimal growing season in 2012, which provided little rain along with high temperatures with only slight variations between night and day, and only finally offering some much needed rain in early September, the 2012 Oreno turned out to be quite a remarkable effort. Composed of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, this delivers lovely aromas and flavors of blackberries, blueberries and fresh violets followed by hints of tobacco and dark chocolate. This is impressive for its overall firm structure and balance, getting lift from the underlying acidity as it heads into the long, polished finish. This is an age worthy Oreno that will certainly require time before it will be at its best. (Best 2018-2032) - June, 2015 (JD)
