The 2012 Solaia is an absolutely tremendous wine from Antinori. This compelling blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Franc has a brooding, dark color with complex aromatics of ripe cassis, blueberry purée, black truffle, sandalwood and dark chocolate. On the palate this is full-bodied and well-structured with impressive balance and depth. This absolutely seamless wine leaves behind flavors of cocoa, dark chocolate, blackberry pie and blueberry preserves to linger on the finish. This needs time, but overall the 2012 is a classic Solaia, which has a long, bright future ahead. (Best 2019-2040) - January, 2016 (OB)
