The 2014 Tenuta di Trinoro is another sensational wine from Andrea Franchetti. The growing season offered many difficulties in 2014, however Andrea managed to thrive, crafting this incredible wine composed of a propriety blend of 39% Cabernet Franc, 39% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot. This slowly begins to open with blackberries and cassis which are followed by sweet spices, violets, tobacco along with a lovely mineral character of iron and graphite. This expressive, polished red is full bodied, balanced and well structured, showing excellent depth and concentration through the long, mineral infused finish which lingers effortlessly. Readers familiar with Trinoro may notice the fruit density is toned down just a notch in this vintage, however that is not an bad thing at all, as it allows the mineral character to become more prominent, while also bringing a notable element of balance and refinement into focus. Overall, this is total success from Andrea Franchetti, who has crafted another utterly compelling wine, which will undoubtably age gracefully for many years to come.
