Coming from one of the premier estates in all of Montalcino the 2009 Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino is very pretty with lots of elegance. There are notes of strawberry, plum, spicy cedar and hints of fresh mineral. This is medium-bodied but has lots of structure and everything is in the right place. Wait, I almost forgot to mention the long, chewy and mouth-watering finsh, Wow! There is no doubt this is a food friendly wine and this would be an amazing pairing with veal or roasted chicken dishes. This is 100% Sangiovese, so readers who are drinking Chianti in the $20 range and have not yet expirecned a Rosso di Montalcino should not pass this up. (Drink 2012-2016) - February, 2012 (JD)
