The 2011 Tenuta Di Castellaro 'Nero Ossidiana' is a fascinating wine from the Aeolian island of Lipari, just off the northern coast of Sicily. It instantly grabs your attention with its dark color, immediately followed by aromas blackberry, dried rose pedal, raspberry, wet stones, cherry tobacco loamy soil and earthy minerals which leap from the glass. It backed by a full-bodied texture with smooth tannins and a soft caressing finish that lingers on. Winemaker Salvo Foti has crafted this beauty from Corinto and Nero d’Avola, which are grown in the ancient "alberello" method of free-standing bush vines. (Best 2014-2024) - November, 2014 (MD)
