The 2001 Ornellaia has evolved tremendously well over the past decade and is without doubt turning out to be a legendary Ornellaia. It immediately opens with seductive aromas of blackberries, dark cherries, pain grille, leather, graphite and spring flowers all coming together in the glass. The tannins have already softened up and are resolving beautifully into the seamless texture. It demonstrates remarkable overall balance, focus and depth before finishing up with gorgeous finesse and polish. Today, this is showing just about perfect, however it still capable of lasting for years to come. A simply magical effort, reminds me of a great Pauillac. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
