QUINTA DO VALLADO Douro Reserva 2007

Our number 5 wine for 2011 comes from heart of the Douro region, a few miles from the historical centre of Régua, Quinta do Vallado spreads along both banks of the Corgo River, right where it meets the Douro. With references dating back to 1716, the Quinta belonged to the legendary D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and has remained in the family ever since. It is now in its sixth generation.

The 2007 Quinta do Vallado Reserva Douro is just an absolutely gorgeous wine, burgundian in quality and style with beautiful dark cherries and plums leading the way into gorgeous crushed floral and fresh mineral. This is so focused and pure from start to finish and delivered with so much finesse all wrapped up with one of the most soft and silky tannins that ever crossed my palate. Fantastic! This is a blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Toutigas Franca, Toutigas Nacional and Toutigas Sousao. The grapes were vinified in stainless steel vats and after malolatic fermentation aged 17 months in French oak. (Best 2011-2022) - June, 2011 (JD)
