There is a lot to like in this value red Tejo wine. Not too many wines make it to the US from this region that is located between the Lisboa and Alentejo VRs, and has a very strong influence from the Tagus river. Grapes for this wine are grown on four different vineyards, each containing a varied terroir of clay, limestone, and sand based soil. Needing a two hour decant at this juncture, this Touriga National wine begins with aromatics of black plum, pipe tobacco and spicebox with a touch of cloves. This leads to flavors of boysenberry preserves, mocha, sage and green olive. Lovely balance to this red wine that needs another year in the bottle to fully express itself. The polished texture shines from this excellent vintage. (Best 2017-2025) - May, 2016 (OB)
