The grapes (80% Tempranillo with the rest Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo) come from the vineyard site “Cues ta la Reina” with vines that the winery notes are over 80 years of age. Grapes were harvested in October and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks with vineyard yeasts for 32 days. It was then aged in French Allier and Romanian oak barrels where the wine was racked 5 times. The wine was bottled two years later in June, and was stored for another year before release. The wine itself begins with aromas reminiscent of toasted oak, red cherries, dill and lavender. This leads to flavors of red cherry, raspberry, and sage that is rich and refined. There is lovely viscosity and strong minerality to this impressive bottling. This is a compelling Rioja, and a wonderful expression from this great vintage. While it is hard to resist now, this will continue to evolve for two more decades in the bottle. (Best 2015-2030) - November, 2015 (OB)
