The 2016 Vinas Viejas from Dominio del Aguila is composed of 100% Albillo that was sourced from old vines 70+ years in age and it is simply stunning in this vintage. This instantly opens to striking aromatics of ripe pears, Meyer lemon, orange blossoms, buttered hazelnuts, crushed stones and a gorgeous saline character that all comes together beautifully in the glass. On the palate this displays a gorgeous textural richness and impeccable balance with the perfect touch of acidity framing the flavors of Meyer lemon, orange blossoms, salty minerals and nutty characteristics that continues through the precise finish. This has it all and is extremely accessible today, however it also displays the potential to continue to evolve gracefully for at least another decade.
