The 2006 Saxum James Berry Vineyard is a full-throttle, opulent and seductive wine consisting of 45% Syrah, 38% Grenache and 17% Mourvèdre. It offers intense aromas of black and blue fruits, spices, herbs, cocoa, coffee and chalky minerals which soar from the glass. This is dense and layered showing wonderful power and finesse, yet very well structured. The polished tannins burst onto the long supple, mouth coating finish which filled with dark fruit, spices and chocolate. A fantastic wine from Justin Smith that drinking beautifully right now, but there is no rush as it is only just entering its prime. (Best 2013-2026) - October, 2013 (JD)
