This is a big bold blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Cabernet Franc. Where most napa vinters struggled with their 2011s, Russell Bevan did just the opposite and thrived. Inky black with a deep ruby red around the edges, this wine has a nose of strawberries, dark berry liquor with a hint of underbrush and licorice spice. The palate yields black berries and cherries that go on and on with a hint of cola. After many hours of air, there is a hint of cinamon and cocoa powder that also make an appearance on the mid palate and into the sweet and long sensuous finish that goes on for well over a minute. Although this wine is big, it's very well integrated and easily approachable now. I wonder which direction it will take as it ages, but it is brilliant now. I recommend paying special attention to Bevan Cellars. Russell Bevan is really hitting his stride and may very well be the next Manfred Krankel, his style is somewhere between SQN and Schrader.
