APERTURE Red Wine, Russian River Valley ‘1912 Estate Blend’ 2021

I’ve always loved the field blends coming from the Russian River Valley of old-vine fruit, where some of the varieties are not even known. A blend of mostly Zinfandel with a small amount of dozens of other varietals are all co-fermented in 50% new French oak for 16 months. Throw whatever mental picture you have about Zinfandel out the window because this wine is not that. Think notes of black cherries, blue plum skin, peach yogurt, black-peppered salami, and toasted cedary herbs. It’s ripe, rounded, and really fun to drink. Only 270 cases produced.
