APERTURE Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley ‘Farrow Ranch’ 2019

The inaugural release of this new Cabernet Sauvignon from Jesse Katz, the 2019 Farrow Ranch single-vineyard Cabernet, comes from the same vineyard sites as his famous Malbec, Devil Proof. It rests for 22 months in 80% new French oak barrels and claims a stunning lush dark purple core with a neon blue rim in the glass. Decadent and sinful aromas of brandied black cherries, dried violet flowers, pan-toasted cinnamon sticks, shaved dark chocolate, singed thyme, and pine needles, it’s a wine that grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. Full-bodied over the tongue, the tannins are crunchy and need a few years to integrate into the lush acidity and black fruit, and dusty finish. Better in 2024 and then drink or hold for the next 20 years. Just about 240 cases were produced. Highly recommended.
