THE SETTING Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley 2020

The 2020 The Setting Cabernet from Alexander Valley presents a brooding deep garnet and purple core with a lighter purple rim. It’s aged for about 2 years in 80% new French oak barrels. The Alexander is a hair better than its sibling from the Napa Valley and gifts notes of black brandied cherry, black plum skins, dark chocolate shavings, dried oregano, tobacco leaf, and cedary herbs. Tannins are starting to integrate but are still a touch chalky, but the ample acidity cuts right through it. I’d wait a year or two to enjoy it, but then it should be spectacular over the next 10 years or so. 650 cases crafted. Highly recommended. .
