Tanbark Hill is the second label from renowned Napa Valley winemaker Philip Togni and it is produced from the same the Vineyard as their Premier Cabernet, under the same winemaking process. Despite barrel selections, all the fruit is aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak, at which point the lots are selected for the blends. The 2014 Tanbark Hill is a lovely showing, opening with aromatics of red and dark fruits, woven together with spices, herbs, dusty nuances and hints of violets all taking shape. This Medium-full bodied Cabernet shows notable restraint, as well as lovely balance and focus through the long finish. As all of Tongi’s wines, the Tanbark Hill will need at least a few years of cellaring before it hits its stride.
