The 2009 King Coal from Charles Smith Wines / K Vintners is dense and concentrated with layers of fresh currants, cassis, herbs, bell pepper, tomato, smoke, tobacco and lavender. Full, round and polished with plenty of power and depth leading to the long mouth-watering finish which leaves you craving for more. Composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Syrah sourced from the Stoneridge Vineyard. The Syrah is entirely whole cluster and is layered in open top fermenters with the de-stemmed whole berry Cabernet Sauvignon over the top. The wine was aged for 26 months prior to bottling. You can approach this now, but it also has the stuff to hold up nice for well over a decade if you can wait.
