FAUSSE PISTE Syrah ‘Ce Lieu Apres’ 2008

top100-ico2013 Top 100 - Rank #27
The Fausse Piste ‘Ce Lieu Apres’ (name meaning "this place after") is fantastic Syrah. It displays a pitch-dark opaque color and intense aromas of blackberries, blueberry compote layered with Asian spices, green olive, pepper, raw meat and minerals. It is extremely dense, powerful and concentrated, but a focused beam of acidity proves enough to balance it out. The finish is so persistent, leaving a rich coating of dark fruits and spices. It is composed of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier sourced from the Outlook Vineyard which is located in the heart of the Rattlesnake Hills sub AVA of the Yakima Valley at 1300' above sea level. Winemaker Jesse Skiles is making some outstanding Rhône style wines out of Washington State and they are currently somewhat still under the radar, but they certainly won’t be remaining there for much longer.
