DIAMOND CREEK Cabernet Sauvignon, Volcanic Hill 2013

The 2013 Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is amongst the most compelling wines from the entire region in this vintage. The 8-acre Volcanic Hill Vineyard has the warmest micro-climate on the estate with grey soils comprised of the volcanic ash deposited from the eruption of Mt. Konocti 8 million years ago. The wine itself is extraordinary, as it displays an impressive dark, opaque color followed by striking aromatics of black cherries, blueberries and cassis which are accompanied by spring florals and graphite with suggestions of mocha and earthy nuances all taking shape. This full-bodied Cabernet is impeccably structured with a remarkable plush, velvety texture, which glides seamlessly across the palate. Dense and concentrated this continues to deliver layers complex flavors what build up to the majestic finish. The stunning combination of power and finesse make this utterly fascinating. While this is already a complete knockout, given the track record for Diamond Creek, I would expect nothing less than for this to thrive in the cellar for decades.
