COLGIN Red Wine, Napa Valley 'Cariad' 2013

The 2013 'Cariad' is a breathtaking wine from Colgin. Composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot this begins with stunning aromatics of ripe blackberries, dark currants and dark plums layered with exotic spices, dark chocolate shavings, scorched earth, florals, licorice, tobacco and even some black olive nuances. On the palate this is every bit as impressive, full-bodied, intense and concentrated, yet displaying remarkable tannin structure and balance. It possesses outstanding depth, as rich, velvety layers of ripe dark fruits, exotic spices and earthy gravel all gain momentum and resonate through the long, supple finish. While this is impressive right now, it should continue to age further and go on to impress for years to come.
