HOLOCENE Pinot Noir, Yamhill-Carlton ‘Memorailis’ 2022

The Oregon project Holocene by master winemaker Todd Alexander keeps getting better year after year. This 2022 Memorailis Pinot Noir sports a light ruby-garnet core with a silvery rim, is fermented with 100% whole cluster, and is aged for 14 months in almost all neutral French oak. At first glance, you are hit with forest herb, umami, roasted game, and iron ore notes on the nose, revealing its character and complexity. After a few minutes, those fruit characteristics of marionberry, white grapefruit pith, and blue plum skin start to pop. The plush tannins and gorgeous acidity highlight the blue-fruited and earthy finish. About 300 cases made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
