The scintillating il Padrino Syrah from Paul Lato rests in 66% new French oak barrels for 19 months and presents a deep purple core with a neon ruby rim. Complex and intricate is the name of the game here, and the wine continued to evolve over the 20 minutes it sat in my glass. An exceptional nose of roasted blackberry, deep violet, sweet cinnamon stick, black olive tapenade, cured meats, and toasted black peppercorn spill from the glass. Structured and sweet tannins balance amazingly well with the perfect levels of acidity and the full-bodied mouthfeel. Better in 2023 and then enjoy for 10-13 years. Just six barrels produced. Highly recommended.
