The 2013 'Artemis' by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is an excellent release from this estate. This wine is sourced from 28% Atlas Peak District, 12% St. Helena, 11% Coombsville and 8% Estate fruit (FAY and S.L.V. vineyards). They chose to blend a small portion of Merlot (4%) and Malbec (1%) into this wine. The Cabernet was barrel aged for 18 months in 29% new French oak and 16% new American oak. Named after the Greek goddess of the hunt, as this Cabernet slowly opens it begins to release aromatics of black cherry, anise, black olive and creme de cassis. This leads to flavors of anise, creme de cassis, tar, sagebrush, milk chocolate and cherry cough syrup. Dense, layered, forward and polished, this Napa Cabernet drinks beautifully straight out of the bottle.(Best 2016-2030) - June, 2016 (OB)
