The 2013 Chateau Montelena Cabernet is a gorgeous release from this storied Calistoga estate. This is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 14% Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc which spent 14 months in a combination of French and Eastern European oak. As this slowly develops in the glass, the wine begins to yield bright aromas of pipe tobacco, blackberry cobbler, sage and mint. There are rich flavors of cassis, anise, coffee grounds, eucalyptus and black cherries. This possesses a wonderful tannin structure, which suggests that this has the potential to age for years to come. (Best 2017-2030) - November, 2016 (OB)
