The 2002 Cardinale Red Wine is an absolutely stunning blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder Merlot. The fruit was sourced primarily from Veeder Peak, with 26% from To Kalon Vineyard and 12% from W.S. Keyes. This spent 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels and offers exotic aromatics of red cherries and blackberry cobbler with rose petals and coffee grounds adding additional complexity. This has a marvelous combination of weight and tension, as layers of blackberry pie, mocha, anise and crème de cassis flavors impress. Today, this is utterly delicious, however it looks as if this will have plenty to give over the next decade and even beyond.
