A unique grape varietal for the U.S., let alone California, the 2018 Pinotage from Fort Ross Vineyard demonstrates a dark ruby-purple core with a neon pink rim. Notes of ripe boysenberries, black currants, toasted cedary herbs, wet autumn leaves, and hints of allspice are all present in the glass. It’s an interesting wine and the first Pinotage I’ve tasted outside of South Africa.
