SAVIAH CELLARS Syrah, Rocks District Milton-Freewater ‘The Stones Speak’ 2020

Another incredible Syrah from Saviah Cellars is the 2020 rendition of ‘The Stones Speak’'. Spending 17 months in 20% new French oak and incorporating 25% whole cluster, this is another masterpiece in tannic structure by the talented Richard Funk. Showing off black current on the nose, this inky offering had an incredible mouthfeel. The velvety, plush and mouth coating entry reveals double dense blueberry, ripe plum/prune, and licorice initially, which is then was joined by faint notes of bacon fat, saline and white pepper as it moved mid-palate. As it continued to build and develop, a wonderful tension of counterbalanced blueberry and saline played off each other in equal parts, neither one backing down one inch. As it headed towards a one-minute finish, charcoal flashed a wink to complete a wonderful tasting experience. Approachable now, this one has at least 15 years of solid and enjoyable drinking ahead of it.
