The 2019 John Lewis Reserve Syrah saw 90% whole clusters during fermentation and then 10% new French oak for a total of 19 months. Medium ruby-purple cored with a neon pink rim in the glass, it explodes with beautiful aromatics of boysenberry, huckleberry, iron ore, crushed pink peppercorns, saline, bacon fat, and Spanish olives. Leaner on the palate than on the nose, it glides across the tongue with saline and meaty components that integrate well with the silky tannins and perfect levels of acidity. Just 240 cases were made. Highly recommended and editor’s choice.
