The 2012 Northstar 'Columbia Valley' Merlot is an exceedingly good wine from a great vintage. Northstar has crafted another outstanding late release Merlot here which is a blend of 75% Merlot with 23% Cabernet and 2% Petit Verdot. This wine opens with an aromatic profile of black tea, black cherry, mocha and graphite. There are dense flavors of black cherry, coffee grounds, spicebox and suggestions of milk chocolate which expand to the long, milk chocolate driven finish. (Best 2016-2028) - November, 2016 (OB)
