Originally planted in 1977, this southeast-facing chardonnay vineyard (clone 108) are 38 years of age. The Ritzville Silt Loam soil at this site is extremely shallow, lying over fractured basalt, and is of marginal productivity. This Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented in French Burgundy barrels, of which roughly 25% were new. The wine has aromas of buttered toast, pear and peach pit on the nose. There are flavors of pear, gala apple, vanilla cream which leads to a long and lingering 20 plus second finish. This is an exceptional effort. (Best 2015-2022) - November, 2015 (OB)
