The 2014 ‘Grand Cheval’ is a masterful blend of Syrah and Pinot Noir which was aged in 65% new French oak for 18 months prior to bottling. Dark fruit nuances immediately impress as they come together with a smoky edge laced with black tea and pipe tobacco. Balanced and focused, the acidity to this wine is quite striking, as it showcases a vivid core of dark cherries, coffee grounds, black tea and pomegranate seed flavors which are delivered through a beautifully textured palate. Overall, this is a fabulous wine which I expect will cellar beautifully over the next fifteen years. (Best 2017-2033) - October, 2017 (OB)
