APERTURE Red Wine, Sonoma County ‘Bordeaux’ 2020

The 2020 Aperture Bordeaux Red Blend is made up of 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Malbec, 28% Merlot, and 11% Cabernet Franc; it then rests in 45% new French oak for 18 months. Sporting a deep ruby and purple core with a neon purple rim, it’s one of those wines you need to sit with for at least 20 minutes and let it evolve on the nose. Spiced boysenberry, wild huckleberry, pencil shavings, toasted clove, dried violet flowers, and hints of fresh mint explode from and change in the glass. At times it’s fruit-forward, then wait ten minutes, and it’s spice-driven. Sweet and rounded tannins are at the backbone alongside perfect levels of acidity and balance. Drink now or hold for another 12-15 years. An incredible wine for the price point. Highly recommended.
