HERTELENDY VINEYARDS

Location: United States, California, Napa Valley ITA

Ralph Hertelendy

The Hertelendy family has a long history in wine, which spans back centuries, from 18th-century vineyards near Budatin Castle in Slovakia to Hungarian wines produced by ancestral Great Uncle Gábor Hertelendy. Gábor created two varietals in his basalt-mountain vineyards overlooking Lake Balaton: Szürkebarát (better known as Pinot Gris) and Kéknyelű (a rare Hungarian white wine grape only found in the Badacsony wine region). Gabor sold all his wine to the Badacsony cooperative, so bottles never adorned the Hertelendy name.

Today, thanks to Ralph Hertelendy, the Hertelendy family traditions have been reborn in Napa Valley, and the family name and Coat of Arms finally graces the bottles. Wine has been a part of Ralph’s live since early childhood. Ralph can recall when was 5 years old in France, tasting a wine and liking it, not just for the flavor, but also because it brought friends and family together. Ralph began his career as a sommelier and also worked for several wineries in the Napa Valley in sales, and as a winemaker’s assistant. He went on to making his first wine at the age of 25 in his basement, and today is making world-class wines from Napa Valley and he continues to strive for perfection.

Ralph has consulted Phillip Corallo-Titus, one of Napa Valleys most renowned winemakers to consult on his wines. Phillip is well known for his role at Chappellet and Titus Vineyards. The two have teamed up to bring together Ralph’s complex, bold approach and Phillip’s elegant finesse of winemaking.

Hertelendy Vineyards sources its fruit, not just from their 4+ acre mountainside 1365 ft elevation "Rockwell Ridge" estate vineyard (35 ft below the Howell Mountain AVA demarkation line), but also from ultra premium vineyards around the Napa Valley including areas like Oakville, Atlas Peak, Pritchard Hill, Silverado Bench, Coombsville, and the Russian River Valley for our Chardonnay.

Hertelendy Vineyards produces a two reds; a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a Signature Mountain blend. They also produce a Chardonnay from the famous Ritchie Vineyard, which has the reputation as one of the premier sites for Chardonnay in the Russian River Valley.
