Cliff Lede Vineyards was founded in 2002 by Cliff Lede following the acquisition of 60 acres in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. Cliff was focused on producing wines from estate vineyards. One of his greatest attributes is his ability to recognize talent and he consulted with one of Napa’s most talented viticulturist, David Abreu to replant and farm the vineyards. With these plantings so specific and precise, Cliff decided to name them after his favorite rock songs and albums to keep track, creating what is now known as the Cliff Lede Vineyards “Rock Blocks.”

2005 marked the completion of the 25,000 square foot winery and cave system that was etched into a hillside. The winery overlooks the estate vineyards, which span across the Stags Leap District, from the steep hillside terraces of the Poetry Vineyard, to the Twin Peaks Vineyard on valley floor that surrounding the winery.

In the winery Cliff Lede combines traditional winemaking techniques with innovative technology. The grapes are subject to a meticulous three-tiered sorting process which includes hand sorting, then a selection using a a cutting-edge Pellenc optical sorting machine, and finally another hand-sort. A unique crane system was also installed, to gently deliver whole berries to tank for fermentation, allowing for minimal processing of the fruit. Once in barrel, the wine is stored in temperature-controlled caves in the hillside behind the winery, providing an ideal atmosphere for aging and energy savings needed to meet their Napa Green Winery certification.

Today,the wines from Cliff Lede are more impressive than ever. The winemaking duties are lead by Christopher Tynan, who crafts the estates outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc wines.
