This spectacular blend of 44% Mourvèdre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 6% Counoise opens up with an intense bouquet of plums, dark fruit, white pepper, meat, with a touch of alcohol present. The nose seems sweeter than it's Rhône Cousin, but all the right elements are there in this California Rhône style blend. On the palate there is intense sweet dark fruit surrounded by the earthiness you would hope for in a Rhône along with nice white pepper and spices. The wine has great structure and is well balanced. There are fine dusty tannins present that continue into the extremely long and sweet finish with a hint of crushed rock and minerals making an appearance. This wine will continue to age and should provide great drinking for the years to come! (Tasted from Magnum - Best 2014-2025) - February, 2014 (JR)
