Gandona is located on Pritchard Hill and was planted roughly 50-years ago by winery pioneer, Bob Long. The property is surrounded by some of the most iconic wineries on Pritchard Hill. Proprietor, Manuel Pires has consulted one of Napa Valley's most talented winemakers, Philippe Melka, to lead the winemaking duties. Sourced from the highest and steepest blocks on the property, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is the Estates flagship wine, and it is simply stunning. It opens with a seductive and complex profile of ripe dark currants and blueberries, along with violets, smoke, graphite, loamy soil and hints of fresh wild herbs all taking shape and soaring from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, dense and remarkably concentrated, yet displays wonderful purity, as well as a wonderful sense of balance and poise. The gorgeous opulent mouthfeel gives way to layers of beautifully ripe dark fruits, which continue to build on the palate and linger effortlessly on the long finish. While this is nothing short of utterly delicious now, I expect it will thrive in the cellar and continue to offer many years of pleasure.
