2015 is the inaugural release for the '1856' Cabernet Sauvignon from Materra, and it's absolutely fantastic. The final blend consists of 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot, which spent 20 months in French Oak 85% New, 15% Neutral. Made in a modern, hedonistic style, the wine itself begins is seductive aromas of ripe dark currants, crème de cassis and dark plums woven together with cinnamon, brown sugar and pencil shavings all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this is full and voluptuous, with a lovely plush texture and nicely integrated tannins. It displays notable depth with layers of sweetly ripened dark fruits and sweet spice flavors that continue to build on the palate and cascade effortlessly into the finish. Overall, the 1856 is nothing short of absolutely delicious, and will be open for business upon release.
