The 2014 ‘Aleste’ Barolo from Sandrone is a lovely effort in this vintage. Sourced from a five-acre plot at the top of the Cannubi hill this Barolo begins with inviting aromatics of red berries and cherries woven together with florals, licorice, spices and hints of smoke all develop with time in the glass. On the palate this displays remarkable elegance and finesse, in combination with wonderful structure. It continues to impress with is beautiful focus and persistence through the long finish. While Aleste already shows some youthful appeal, like many wines from the vintage this will need some additional time in bottle before it begins to show its best.
