Szt. Tamás is a First-Growth Vineyard in the Mád commune. This south facing vineyard consists of vines ranging from 20 to 44 years-old that are planted to the rich, red tinged clay, mineral rich soils. 2013 was a sensational vintage for developing Aszú berries in Szt. Tamás, the Furmint had perfect botrytis and was macerated in fermenting must for two days. After pressing and fermentation the wine was transferred into 300 liter second or third fill Hungarian oak casks for almost two years cask maturation in Royal Tokaji's deep underground cellars. The result is a simply magical wine which instantly begins to seduce with its mesmerizing aromas of apricot and tangerine zest along with honey, green tea, florals and a lovely spicy, dried herb character adding even further complexity. On the palate this is rich and beautifully textured with outstanding viscosity, balance and the perfect touch of acidity to keep it fresh and inviting. Gorgeous and expressive, this utterly captivating Tokaji continues to impress with is elegance and remarkably complex character all the way through the long, supple finish. While this is already nothing short of brilliant it will also certainly go on to have an incredible future for decades to come.
