The 2016 'Grande Reserve' from Mas Saint-Louis is an absolutely stunning wine which is composed of mainly Grenache and with a percentage Mourvèdre. It instantly begins with remarkably complex aromatics of raspberries and plum fruit along with savory herbs, tobacco and hints of smoldering embers and roasted asparagus which all come together in the glass. This continues to impress with its outstanding velvety texture and remarkable overall balance and focus. It displays excellent concentration and depth leading up to the long, succulent finish. This is a wonderfully complex wine which certainly stands out. While the 'Grand Reserve' is already utterly fascinating, it also has the potential to age beautifully, and look to have a brilliant future ahead. This begs for a nice hearty dish or a cassoulet.
