The 2016 ‘Vieilles Vignes’ is an absolutely fantastic showing in this vintage, composed of predominately old-vine Grenache with a percent of Syrah and Mourvèdre finishing the blend. As this slowly begins to unwind in the glass it displays wonderful aromatics of black raspberry coulis and blueberries which are woven together with spices, herbs, black olives, earthy minerals and hints of smoke all taking shape. On the palate this full-bodied red is well-structured with excellent overall concentration and depth through the long finish. This shows incredible potential, but like some of its peers, this will require some significant cellaring. Nonetheless, this is an utterly fascinating wine that should continue to evolve beautifully and drink exceedingly well in due time.
