The 2016 Château Léoville Poyferré is utterly captivating and one of the most impressive young wines from the vintage. Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc this gorgeous Saint-Julien offers attractive aromatics of ripe black and red currants, exotics spices, fresh violets, graphite and minerals all taking shape. On the palate this is medium to full bodied backed by incredible tannin structure and outstanding overall balance. It displays stunning purity and is beautifully precise through the ultra-long finish. The 2016 is one of the finest young wines from Léoville Poyferré which I have had the chance to taste. That being said, this will demand some cellaring, but the sky is the limit for this simply brilliant wine.
