The 2016 Opus One is absolutely outstanding. Michael Silacci crafted a simply sensational wine in this vintage, composed of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. It begins with seductive aromas of crème de cassis, blueberries, spring floral, graphite and a dusting of dried savory herbs all emerging beautifully from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and voluptuous, displaying outstanding structure with plush velvety tannins wrapping the beautiful core of ripe dark fruits. It goes on to impress with its wonderful depth and concentration leading up to the long graceful finish. The 2016 is another remarkable wine from Opus One, and while already quite accessible, it also looks to have a remarkably bright future, with the potential to evolve for decades.
